The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família or Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, is a large Roman Catholic church. Although construction began in 1882, it is not complete and has an anticipated completion date of 2026.

    Designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, the Sagrada Familia combines Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms.
  • Odd and Unusual

    Due to interruptions caused by war and lack of private donations, the construction of Barcelona's Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family has taken over 120 years.
  • Places of Worship, Religious Buildings

    The main nave was covered and an organ installed in mid-2010, allowing the still unfinished building to be used for religious services. In November, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed Sagrada Família a minor basilica.
  • World Heritage Site

    Although incomplete, the Church of the Holy Family is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
